Business State

A Business State can be simply defined by a number of key elements:

  • Business Structure, where people, assets and operations are organised in order to enable optimum use of CAPEX and OPEX in order to achieve sustainable growth and profitability
  • Business Functions, typically organised around products and services that are delivered to external and internal stakeholders
  • Business Processes, which are the ‘things that people do’ on a regular basis in order to produce results that contribute to achieving business outcomes
  • Systems and Information Structures, which enable and support the sustainable execution of Business Processes
  • Human Capability, which is comprised of such things as people, people skills, experience, relationships (customers, internal teams, etc.), availability, etc.

Organisations continually undergo substantial change as they transition through a number of Business States, which is known as Enterprise Business Transformation.

Successful Enterprise Business Transformation depends on an organisation having a strong Program Delivery Capability. At the heart of effective Program Delivery lies the capability to clearly define Business States.
